PIIC Coaches Meeting

Objectives:


  • To share strategies, information, and materials from the May PIIC PD

  • To continue building “next steps” for coaching implementation in our schools in the coming school year

  • To create and utilize premade resources for coaching opportunities

  • To explore resources for the use of primary source documents and their use in the implementation of literacy strategies in the content area classroom

  • To formulate an implementation plan for model classrooms

  • To celebrate success in coaching this school year

BEFORE: Thinking about our practice:


DURING:

  • Review objectives for the day
  • 5 minute share-out: Successes and Concerns this month
  • PIIC Statewide:
    • Attendants: Share out any information, strategies, or materials of interest to the group.
    • What did you take away with you?
    • Questions / Discussion from the group
  • H.S.I. and primary sources
  • Lesson Plan Template:
    • In groups of 3-4:
      • Outline a lesson plan using one of the H.S.I. resources that you could co-teach with a History teacher
      • How can you incorporate primary source documents AND literacy / PLN strategies?
  • Meeting Presentation:

    • As a school group, design a short (10-15 minute) presentation you could present at a faculty meeting, grade level meeting, or department meeting.
    • You may choose either to:
      • Provide an overview of the PIIC initiative and your role as coaches
            • Or
      • Demonstrate literacy skills strategies and materials
        • Present to the group
  • Model Classroom:

    • As a group:
      • Develop a model classroom activity that would appeal to content area teachers
      • This should incorporate strategies that can easily be adapted to different types of lessons.
  • Next Steps:

    • Review next steps activity from April
    • Discuss and add to what was developed at the last meeting
    • As a school group: Set 3 attainable goals for next year, based on this work
