Objectives:

  • To share strategies, information, and materials from the October PIIC PLO
  • To apply concepts from PLN
  • To connect the concept of the four lenses to lesson analysis
  • To develop a plan for a successful “first interaction”
  • To evaluate and demonstrate the "Data" standard for professional learning (Learning Forward)
  • To apply PIIC coaching strategies to the math classroom
  • To explore the use of PVAAS data in instructional coaching



Notes:


  • PDN: Think about content vocabulary in your classroom?
    • How do you teach content vocabulary? How is it used?
      • Use words in context
      • Value of teaching prefixes, roots, and suffixes
      • Make students use them—incorporate in bell ringer answers
      • Use them in your lectures
  • What’s new in your buildings?
    • Uses of technology; Facebook, meetings for/during coaching times
  • October PLO Discussion
  • Collins Writing: How to incorporate in classes
    • Brainstorming examples of type 1
      • What do you associate with
      • Respond/evaluate/connect to a quote
      • What relationship does _ have to your life/current events
      • Math: What does “slope” mean to you?
    • Brainstorming examples of type 2
      • Correct answer, can be graded, can be F.A.
      • Math type 2 discussion: Do you need to explain in English?
        • Does a student understand if he cannot do the above?
      • “My favorite no” Present wrong answer to a question/misconception, display; students have to figure out what is wrong with it.
    • Brainstorming examples of type 3
      • Has FCAs (Good paragraph structure, spelling, complete sentences, content, etc.
        • More than one can be content-related
        • At least 1 should be writing-related
      • Makes students better writers
      • It is read aloud
